BIOGRAPHY


Joao Machado

Born in 1942, Joao Machado graduated in sculpture from the School of Fine Arts in O'Porto, Portugal, and now works as an illustrator and graphic designer. Joao's use of simple images and vivid colors allows him to create brilliant illustrations that reproduce fantastically for posters, in which he specializes.

Joao's works have appeared in both one-man and collective exhibitions, including the Biennial of Posters in Warsaw, the Biennial of Graphics in Brno, and the International Exhibition of Posters in Colorado, all of which he participated in numerous years. In 1994 alone, his works were displayed in Mexico, France, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Finland, among other places. Over the following two years, his works have been exhibited in countless countries including Poland, America, Japan, Hungary, and Bulgaria.

Joao has received many awards during his career such as the First National Design Prize in Portugal, 1985; "Die Erste Internacionale Litfass Kunst Bienal" Special Prize in Munich, 1989; a Bronze Medal for the Book Biennial in Leipzig, 1989; and the 1991 Fair of Bologna Illustration Prize, among others. He is included in over 40 publications on illustration, graphics, and advertising art.

Joao is the Portuguese member of the International Creators' Organization.
