Steve Powell is an active environmentalist
working in field work, public speaking and lobbying all levels of government.
He has spoken at school and community gatherings as well as on radio.
Steve's comments on environmental issues are frequently seen in newspapers
and newsletters and expresses the love of wildlife and the need for
illustrations.
After a management career in the ceramic industry for 20 years Steve
set his sights on an artistic future. 25 years elapsed since he last
attended High School Art classes and the first step was VCE. The first
year of his artistic career resulted in, distinctions in VCE Studio
Art, a proposal from a leading publisher for an illustrated book and
the sale of his first Wildlife paintings.
This rapid rise has continued, and his sketches have featured in books,
graphic displays, numerous environmental news letters and 1999 R.S.P.C.A.
Calendar.
Steve worked in Watercolor, until he found himself drawn to the work
of Krystii Melaine who graciously agreed to guide his move to oils.
An ever-present desire for improvement has been perused through classes
with:
Watercolor: 'The Botanical Art School of Melbourne' under the internationally
acclaimed Jenny Crompton (Phillips), Oil: with the gifted wildlife artist
Krystii Melaine, Drawing and field sketching: with Steve Morvell and
through detailed study of the Wildlife and its environment.
His work has attracted awards including:
from the prestigious Wildlife Art
Society of Australasia in their 1995 annual exhibition & Best Flora
or Fauna and Highly commended - Moomba Art Show 1996-97.
Steve holds passion for Wildlife shows in his works which are in demand
from galleries and private commissions. His work is now part of Australian
and International collections.
Stephen has served as Secretary and committee member of the Wildlife
Art Society of Australasia Inc.
