Born in Barking , Essex, England on 9th December 1947. Married in 1973. Roger Penwill has a daughter and a son.

Qualified as an architect in 1974. Having worked in a London architectural practice, Roger Penwill becoming Senior Associate Partner. He later retired from Architecture in May 1999, to take up freelance cartooning.

Rogers first cartoon was published in Model Cars magazine in 1964. He started using computers for computer-aided design (CAD) in 1984, then provided cartoons for the CAD software Users Group newsletter. This lead to a regular panel cartoon in the US magazine Computer Solutions and two book collections of computing cartoons being published in the States in 1993 and 1995.

Roger currently provides cartoons for CADALYST magazine in the US. He provides cartoons for specialist trade magazines, commercial and advertising use, editorial and strip cartoons. Roger has greeting card designs published by several companies including his own range Country Humor published by Country Cards.

Roger Penwill has had one-man exhibitions in Turkey, Croatia and in 2003 in the Czech Republic. Won First Prize in Eurohumor 2000 "Tribute to Schulz", First Prize in Pisek 2001 "Love for all times", FECO prize and catalogue cover cartoon in Eurokartoenale 2001 "Supermarket", FECO prize in Deventer, Holland "Turkey into Europe" in 2001. Won other prizes in Eurohumor 2001, Grafikatur 2000 and HumoDaeva 2001 and has had cartoons selected for exhibition in over 35 competitions and festivals since 2000.

A member of the Cartoonists Club of Great Britain since 1996, joining its Committee in 1998. In June 1999 became UK President of the Federation of Cartoonists Organizations (FECO) and FECO President General 2001 -2004. A member of the British Cartoonists Association since June 2001.
