| Sylvie Donmoyer is like a true modern-day
renaissance artist, taking her inspiration from the many beautiful things
and materials the world has to offer through the ages. When she was a small girl in France her parents took her to the many museums, starting a love for art that made her become an apprentice at the 'Manufacture des Gobelins' for two years and later on to study art-history at the Louvre in Paris. Sylvie went on to work as an illustrator in Amsterdam, using the opportunity to study the Dutch masters from the Golden Age to Van Gogh firsthand while exploring painting and illustrating techniques from pen and ink to airbrush and oil-painting. Back in Paris she specialized as a medical illustrator whilst exploring new paint techniques using slate, oxidized copper and silver leaf. This development resulted in various group exhibitions, amongst others in the Grand Palais in Paris and the invitation of the then Minister of Culture, Jaques Lang, to join the Artists' colony of Cachan, near Paris, in order to work there. Now, living in California with her American husband and daughter, the computer offers new artistic challenges, Adobe's Photoshop's headquarters being around the corner, whilst in painting the inspiration expresses itself in meticulously executed 17th century-like dynamic still lifes and in Escher-like rendering of mathematical concepts in beautiful oil-paintings on silver leaf, some of which you can see on this site. |
